The Sunflower State Games, a statewide amateur sports festival for Kansans of all ages and skill levels, is pleased to announce the topics and the deadline for the Healthy Essay Contest sponsored by the Kansas Department of Heath and Education.
All Kansas Elementary school students are invited to enter the contest that asks students “What is your favorite activity and how does it help you stay healthy?” Entries will fall into two groups: first through third graders will write 100-150 words on the topic and fourth through sixth graders will write 150-300 words.
The deadline for the contest is April 8, 2007. Winning essays will be selected by Sunflower State Games staff and the Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Winners receive a Sunflower State Games Gold Medal, an official State Games t-shirt, a Barnes and Noble gift certificate and a $100 savings bond. Winners will be notified by
May 9, 2008 and invited to read their winning essay at the Sunflower State Games V.I.P. Reception July 10, 2008.
All entries must include a name of student, name of teacher, grade level, school address and phone number. Entries may be faxed to 785-235-1308 or mailed to the Sunflower State Games office at 820 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612.
